The Tuscaloosa Co. Democratic Party Executive Committee unanimously approved the following statement concerning the U.S. Supreme Court case, Dobbs vs Jackson Women’s Health at their business meeting on Saturday, June 25:
The Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party condemns the unjust and unjustified ruling handed down by the Supreme Court.
Courts placing politics over established precedent has real consequences for all of us, as the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade demonstrates. People will die and lives will be upturned because of activist judges that chose to seek a political goal rather than a fair ruling. There is one party that supports the culture of life in this state, and it is not the Republican Party.
Forcing women to give birth is always wrong under any conditions. Families will be left without mothers, children will be subjected to an already overcrowded foster care system, and underprivileged Americans will be forced into an under-funded and overloaded health care system.
It is not an overstatement to say that the rights of Americans were taken away on Friday. For the first time in the modern era, children will enjoy less freedom than their parents. Activist judges did this. The Republican Party did this. We as Democrats condemn this ruling in the strongest terms and will continue to fight for your rights.
The Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party continues to support comprehensive health care for everyone in the State of Alabama, and strongly advocates for Medicaid expansion.
