A Message from the Chair:

As many of you know, the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) met Saturday, May 6, 2023. Despite the contentiousness of the meeting, the SDEC, at the direction of Dr. Joe Reed, passed revised Bylaws on May 6, 2023.

In 2019, the DNC ordered the party to revise its bylaws to include more minority representation of Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, youth, LGBTQ+ individuals and those with disabilities. This was accomplished in the bylaws passed October 5, 2019. The Proposed Amended and Restated Bylaws of the State Democratic Executive Committee of Alabama passed on May 6, 2023 removed this minority representation.

I am writing today to assure our members and the community that the Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party intends to remain inclusive and welcoming to all Democrats. We will continue to support the rights of all of our members. We will actively recruit and support the youth, LGBTQ+, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander and Native American communities as we do our Black and white Democrats.

The Tuscaloosa Young Democrats are now the West Alabama Young Democrats. They are led by President Ke’Undra Cox, Exec. Vice President John Dodd, Secretary Kaia Crispin, and Director of Community Outreach Stevon McCullough. Congratulations to Ke’Undra and John, who were elected to the Young Dem. Alabama Executive Board for 2023-2025. Be proud of your West Alabama Young Democrats, who fought for their right to vote in Montgomery without success. These Young Democrats are our hope for better Alabama, for a purple and blue Alabama.

Judith C. Taylor
Chair, Tuscaloosa County Democratic Party
